Why a Cross-Species Atlas?

Nature has evolved mammalian species of greatly differing lifespans. To resolve the relationship of DNA methylation with maximum lifespan and phylogeny, researchers performed a large-scale cross-species unsupervised analysis.

Comparative studies across many species make it possible to identify epigenetic correlates of maximum lifespan and of other traits - signals that simply cannot be seen from any single species in isolation.

What You Can Do With It

  • View and select key datasets for further research
  • Download the underlying data from GEO
  • Test available epigenetic clocks on each species
  • Compare methylation signatures across the mammalian phylogeny

Methylation co-expression modules correlate with maximum lifespan across species (cor = 0.63).

Accessing the Data

Data from the Mammalian Methylation Consortium is downloadable from GEO, and a browser is available below to view and select key datasets for further research. Beyond access to the methylation data itself, additional tools are being made available to enable testing of available epigenetic clocks on each species.
